Tot nu toe zijn er in het jaar 2012 , wereldwijd 1,8 miljoen Playstation Vita´s verkocht.
Dit is bekendgemaakt door de CEO van Sony , Kaz Hirai, tijdens een gesprek met investeerders.
In december vorig jaar werd de PS Vita gelanceerd in Japan , De Amerikaanse en Eurpese release volge in februari van dit jaar.
De PS Vita werd een week na de Europese en Amerikaanse lancering 1,2 miljoen keer verkocht.De PS Vita is dus nog 600.000 keer verkocht, sinds eind februari. Kaz Hirai noemt de cijfers een goed begin, maar dat het succes van de Vita afhankelijk is van de software voor het apparaat. De line-up moet volgens Kaz Hirai verbeteren, evenal de services voor de handheld.
Sony verwacht dat op 31 maart 2013 opgeteld 16 miljoen PS Vita´s en Playstation Portable-exemplaren worden verkocht.

According to an unnamed suocre from the Japanese game industry:Major Japanese companies are canceling all projects intended for the Vita and are changing development to the 3DS.Scott Rohde of Sony has denied this is the case, sharing that:I know many, many, many third party developers and publishers are feverishly working on Vita titles, not just for now, but for the foreseeable future.But even so, it’s interesting we’re hearing these sort of things already. I think it’ll take until Christmas before we can be sure which side the truth lands upon.
